Pre-Modern Societies
In the 16th and 17th centuries life was dominated by agriculture – growing crops and tending animals in order to survive. There was little distinction between work (on the farm) and social life (spent with those you worked with).
Such societies have been described as Pre- modern, Traditional or Authentic. In these pre-modern societies work is in the domestic sphere, involved face-to-face relationships, was affected by climate and seasonal change, had a higher level of self-employment than waged labour and was not dependent on new technology but rather relied on traditional materials and skills.
Tourism
• People rarely went away on holiday they socialised with the people they worked alongside during the day.
